19 BLOCKbuster Party | Truffle Parmesan Popcorn

The "kids" at Vineland Drive-In

The "kids" at the Vineland Drive-In on our 2010 Roadtrip

The 2011 Oscar Awards are in the rear view mirror. I’ve heard that there were some seriously good flicks this past year. Unfortunately I haven’t actually seen any of them. It’s a darn shame that goats are not allowed into movie theaters. Like always, I have to wait for them to come out on DVD and in anticipation I’ve decided to start planning my 19 BLOCKbuster Party. I’m setting up a screen and projector in the Veeder Hills vineyard and inviting 183 friends (I know it’s a lot, but there are a lot of us goats up here at the Hess Collection. Not sure why, but every Spring that number seems to multiply substantially). With that number of invitees, I plan on keeping it simple with some gourmet popcorn, bottles of 19 Block, and Malbec juice (you know for all the kids and pregnant does). Below is the gourmet popcorn recipe from Chef Chad. Definitely pair with 19 Block Cuvée. It’s an awesome combo, believe me.

Truffle Parmesan Popcorn
From Hess Collection Executive Chef, Chad Hendrickson

This pairing is so good, it's hard to share

For the popcorn
½ c popping corn
3 tbsp vegetable oil

1. Place corn and oil in heavy bottom pan or popper.
2. Cover and turn heat to medium. Leave pan lid slightly ajar to allow steam to escape.
3. When popping slows, remove from heat or unplug popper.

Seasoning
2 oz melted butter
2 tsp chopped Italian parsley
2 tsp truffle oil
¼ c grated Parmesan Reggiano
salt to taste

1. Melt butter, remove from heat and add chopped parsley. Pour over popcorn.
2. Sprinkle parmesan over popcorn and drizzle truffle oil, add salt to taste and toss together.
3. Serve for yourself in one large bowl or divide into smaller bowls if you can bring yourself to share.

Love is in the Air on Mount Veeder

Billy, who happens to be a rather suave goat here at the Hess Collection, came up with a great Valentine’s Day gift idea that your special someone will actually love: Pair a bottle of 19 Block Cuvée with a list of 19 things that you love about them. Who needs greeting cards, roses or chocolates?…

Chef Chad’s Steak Skewers with Mustard Sauce

There is no rule saying you can’t drink wine while watching football, in fact we condone the pairing. And what could possibly be better than watching football with a really tasty bottle of red wine and a juicy steak to go along with it? Since we’re “tailgating” this Sunday, we needed a recipe to share…

19 Block Tailgate Party

Sorry blog world, it’s been a while. I’ve been unable to write, sleep or eat the sports section since my team got knocked out of the playoffs last weekend (no names, but I will say their mascot is a fellow member of the animal kingdom). It has been a bear of a week and as…

How we tailgate up on Mount Veeder!

It’s hard to beat the incredible views up here on Mount Veeder. So we thought, why not throw a tailgate party up at Veeder Summit? These images are of Block 19 (elevation 1,900 feet) THE block where the core of our 19 Block Cuvée comes from. Here are some of my favorites from our party….

Henry the Goat’s 19 (Block) Resolutions

It’s that time of year again. So in advance of New Year’s 2011, we asked Henry the Goat, a member of the Hess Collection goat herd, for his resolutions for the new year. In honor of 19 Block Cuvée, he’s graced us with 19 resolutions. Enjoy! 1. Be more discerning about what I eat. Where…

A Resolution That’s Easy to Keep

New Year’s. It’s all about parties, watching football and resolutions. Ah yes, the resolutions. Promises made one day, forgotten the next. We’ve all been there and done that. Vows to lose weight, work out more or look for a new job all sound great at midnight on Dec. 31, but lose their appeal upon further…

19 Block Holiday Party

On the 19th day of Christmas my true love gave to me… a bottle of 19 Block Cuvée. So this year mom suggests doing holiday dinner at YOUR house. Great idea, you think, that is until the panic starts to set in and you’re reminded of the holidays last year when your only responsibility was…

Holiday Party Tip: Recycled Wine Bottle Centerpiece

Metallic spray paint can be your best friend when it comes to holiday decorating on a budget. If you like wine as much as we do, there are always empty bottles nearby waiting to be recycled. Instead, they can be used to make a wintery centerpiece. Here’s how: 1. Grab as many empty bottles as…
